Deer camp 2017 is now officially in the books. A great time was had by all this year. The weather was almost perfect – it could have been colder – just not a big fan of warm temperatures for hunting deer. But hunting in the Ozarks is always a privilege as well as a pleasure. And nothing says deer camp like a big pot of deer chili made from last year’s hunt. It was a delicacy enjoyed by all and feared afar!
Even with were four us, only one deer was harvested. It was a weird year, we hardly saw any deer. I knocked down a nine point buck opening day, late in the afternoon. He was the only deer I saw in five days at camp. Darren saw four deer but none were close enough to get off a shot. Chris and my daughter Katie, didn’t see anything. This was too bad because it was their their first year at deer camp. This was the very first time a stinky ol gurl was allowed!
Deer camp 2017 was our eighth year getting together deep in the Ozark hills. While deer camp is always a great time, it just never lasts long enough. All the work, planning, hauling, cleaning up, moving, building fires, etc. – it’s all a part of a wonderful, shared experience. Thank you Darren, Katie and Chris for a great time. Can’t wait until next year to do it all over again!
